Geometría, naturalmente...

Blanca Berlín inicia el año con una exposición que rompe, de manera puntual y excepcional, con su especialización en fotografía. Luis Matías Santos (Valladolid, 1977), se inspira en la versatilidad del mundo orgánico y las ecuaciones matemáticas para crear obras en papel Kraft tratado con resinas, tintas, pigmentos y acrílicos. Creaciones que, partiendo del plano perfecto, transitan hacia el espacio tridimensional y permiten alcanzar una estructura geométrica que implica el tiempo.

Geometría, naturalmente… desvela una forma de concebir el papel no sólo como material, sino como herramienta. El artista lo concibe como un plano matemático perfecto y gracias a sus características y en base a los propios pliegues, que son la mínima expresión de su volumen, consigue calcular toda la geometría que necesita para crear la multifacética estructura.

Matías Santos parte del papel como un material de 2D (largo y ancho). Con el pliegue y la arruga ocupa el espacio y el volumen, alcanzando 3D (largo, ancho y profundidad). Esta estructura geométrica permite el movimiento, lo que implica la incorporación del tiempo, logrando crear una pieza 4D (largo, ancho, profundidad y tiempo). Finalmente, la sombra de los vértices e hipérboles que produce la geometría estructural se proyecta sobre la pared, logrando que ésta retorne a una pared que solo presenta dos dimensiones (2D).

El tratamiento que Luis Matías Santos aplica al papel, desde el interior de las fibras, con el uso de metilcelulosa y resinas, tiene como resultado un material increíblemente resistente. La estructura geométrica, las arrugas y pliegues le dan al papel características que no posee, como la flexibilidad, permitiendo unos movimientos de apertura y deformación que llevan a las múltiples posibilidades de montaje. El efecto nacarado de los acabados, mezclado con los colores de las piezas y la estructura geométrica, provoca movimientos orgánicos e infinitas formas, evoca diferentes mundos: animal, vegetal, mineral, acuático, onírico, geométrico…

La exposición está estructurada en dos ámbitos bien diferenciados. Una parte hexagonal o cúbica, con piezas que derivan de una geometría muy concreta y particular. La otra parte es caos, personificando el anhelo del artista de transmitir que el caos no es desorden, sino la posibilidad de todo, de la existencia y de la no existencia. Creaciones que conjugan diversas geometrías y proporciones, algunas de sección áurea.

Luis Matías Santos (Valladolid, 1977) is inspired by the versatility of the organic world and mathematical equations to create works on Kraft paper treated with resins, inks, pigments and acrylics. Creations that, starting from the perfect plane, move towards three-dimensional space and reach a geometric structure that implies time.

Geometría, naturalmente… reveals a way of conceiving paper not only as a material but also as a tool. The artist conceives it as a perfect mathematical plane and thanks to its characteristics and based on the folds themselves, which are the minimum expression of its volume, he manages to calculate all the geometry he needs to create the multifaceted structure.

Matías Santos starts from paper as a 2D material (length and width). With the fold and the wrinkle, he occupies space and volume, reaching 3D (length, width and depth). This geometric structure allows movement, which implies the incorporation of time, creating a 4D piece (length, width, depth and time). Finally, the shadow of the vertices and hyperboles produced by the structural geometry is projected onto the wall, making it return to a wall that only has two dimensions (2D).

The treatment that Luis Matías Santos applies to the paper, from the inside of the fibers, with the use of methyl cellulose and resins, results in an incredibly resistant material. The geometric structure and the wrinkles and folds give the paper characteristics that it does not possess, such as flexibility, allowing opening and deformation movements that lead to multiple mounting possibilities. The pearlescent effect of the finishes, mixed with the colors of the pieces and the geometric structure, provokes organic movements and infinite shapes, evoking different worlds: animal, vegetable, mineral, aquatic, dreamlike, geometric…

The exhibition is structured in two well-differentiated areas. One part is hexagonal or cubic, with pieces that derive from a very specific and particular geometry. The other part is chaos, personifying the artist’s desire to transmit that chaos is not disorder, but the possibility of everything, of existence and non-existence. Creations that combine different geometries and proportions, some of them with a golden section.
