Isabel Muñoz. ST Danza Cubana, 1995

La fotógrafa Isabel Muñoz destaca dentro de la diversidad de propuestas que caracterizan el panorama fotográfico español contemporáneo, apostando por la técnica de la platinotipia y por el gran formato con el objetivo de reforzar su discurso: su pasión por el cuerpo como forma de aproximación al estudio del ser humano.

Una pasión que ya desde sus primeras series marca el inicio de un recorrido por numerosas culturas en las que busca capturar con su cámara la belleza del cuerpo humano, abarcando desde sus bailes y luchas tradicionales hasta ciertas realidades y problemáticas en las que Muñoz decide centrar la mirada estableciendo un compromiso social.

La fuerte presencia que Isabel Muñoz ha adquirido dentro de la realidad artística contemporánea queda reflejada en el reconocimiento a su trabajo a través de distintos premios y menciones, Premio Bartolomé Ros a toda su carrera en PHotoEspaña 2009, la Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes 2009 y la obtención en dos ocasiones del World Press Photo y el Premio Nacional UNICEF España 2010 a la Sensibilización y Movilización Social. Destaca también el Premio Nacional de Fotografía 2016. Con motivo de este, se da forma a la exposición “La Antropología de los Sentimientos” en Tabacalera Promoción del Arte. En esta muestra se construye un recorrido temático en torno a la representación obsesiva y heterogénea del cuerpo humano, desde los mismos orígenes de la humanidad, la espiritualidad, la locura, los límites y extremos del cuerpo, la dimensión social de lo corporal y, finalmente, la sexualidad y el deseo.

En 2018 fue una de las invitadas por La Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado a reflexionar sobre la riqueza artística e histórica del museo, creando dos piezas en exclusiva para este.

For more than forty years, Isabel Muñoz has toured the world with her camera portraying the
feelings of the human being in its purest state and intimacy. From the dignity of the primitive tribes
to the disconsolation of the prisons; from the sensuality of dance to the denunciation of oppression;
from the ecstasy that overcomes the lacerating pain to the pain that can no longer be overcome.
The Catalan artist has photographed almost all the feelings and emotions that the human species
harbors, including those of our ancestors, primates, whose gestures have been part of our genes
for millions of years.

Isabel Muñoz is considered one of the greatest international experts of the platinotype. Although
they are difficult to create, and their cost is high, platinum prints are one of the most noble
expressions of photographic art. Its beauty and permanence make the platinotype a little jewel for
lovers of photography and, of course, for collectors and investors. These prints are characterized
by their wide rendition of tones, which starts from warm black and expands in a wide range of gray
nuances, with a particularly subtle reproduction of lights. After more than a decade of research,
she has managed to include color in this process, which constitutes a turning point in the history of
photography.

In 2016 she was recognized with the Spanish National Photography Award, having previously
obtained prestigious awards such as the 1999 and 2004 World Press Photo, the Bartolomé Ross,
the Unicef Spain, the Gold Medal for Merit of the Fine Arts in 2009, the Premio de the Community
of Madrid, etc. Her artworks are included in the most important public and private collections
around the world.
