Carlos Pérez Siquier. ST La Chanca, 1957

Carlos Pérez Siquier (Almeria, 1930) es uno de los pioneros de la vanguardia fotográfica en España. En 1956 fundó con José María Artero el grupo Afal (Agrupación Fotográfica Almeriense) que aglutinó a una generación de excelentes fotógrafos (Terré, Maspons, Miserachs, Cualladó, Masats, Gomez, Schommer…) Entre 1956 y 1971 dedicó al barrio almeriense de la Chanca uno de sus trabajos esenciales, en blanco y negro y color, publicado en 2001 por la junta de Andalucia junto al relato de Juan Goytisolo. Con estética pop abordó en los años 70 y 80 la serie Playas, que concitó la admiración internacional. Tiene obra permanente en el Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo y en numerosas colecciones nacionales y extranjeras.

Carlos Perez Siquier is one of the pioneers in the photographic avant-garde in Spain. In 1956 he founded with José María Artero, the group AFAL (Agrupación Fotográfica Almeriense) that brought together a generation of excellent photographers (Terré, Maspons, Miserachs, Cualladó, Masats, Gomez, Schommer ...) Between 1956 and 1971 he dedicated to the Almeria neighborhood of La Chanca one of his essential works, in black and white and color, published in 2001 by the Junta de Andalucia together with the story by Juan Goytisolo. With pop aesthetics he tackled the Playas series in the 70s and 80s, which attracted international admiration. His permanent work is in the Andalusian Center of Contemporary Art and in numerous national and foreign collections.
